It's quite annoying to have to manually open v2rayN, select nodes, and enable agents every time you boot up. In fact, with just a few switches, it can start running automatically, connect the nodes, and quietly shrink into the tray. It is as hassle-free to use as if it were not installed.

1Turn on automatic startup at boot

Menu "Parameter Settings" → found in the basic settings page "Automatically start at boot"(Or write "Start with the system"), check and confirm. The next time you boot Windows and enter the desktop, v2rayN will run automatically.

Autostart + Remember last node = Works right out of the box: By default, v2rayN will remember the last node and system agent status you selected. Coupled with the automatic startup at boot, it means that the last node is automatically connected when the boot is started, and basically there is no need to worry about it.

2Set minimize to tray when closing window

By default, clicking the "×" in the upper right corner of the window usually minimizes to the tray instead of exiting, and the program is still running in the tray area in the lower right corner. If your version clicks "×" to exit directly, you can find options related to window closing behavior in "Parameter Settings" and set it to "Minimize to tray".

  • Recovery window: Double-click the v2rayN icon in the tray in the lower right corner.
  • Real exit: Right-click the tray icon → "Exit".

In "Parameter Settings", check Auto-start at boot and Hide after startup, v2rayN can run silently in the background.

3Let it hide directly after startup

Some versions provide the "Automatically hide in the tray after startup" option. After checking it, the main window will not pop up when the computer starts up, and the tray will be retracted directly without disturbing the system. With the above two steps, the entire experience is: power on → automatically connected → invisible, but the agent is already working.

4Tips for tray icons

  • Right click on the tray icon You can quickly switch the system proxy mode (clear/automatic configuration/global) without opening the main window.
  • The color/status of the icon can reflect whether you are currently an agent, and you can tell at a glance.
  • If you want to turn off the proxy temporarily, right-click "Clear System Proxy", which is more convenient than exiting the program.

If you are worried that auto-starting will slow down the boot speed - v2rayN itself is very lightweight and has little impact. If you really want to pursue the ultimate, you can not turn it on automatically and turn it on when needed. To further optimize daily use, see Routing offload With "Bypass Mainland" configured, the domestic network speed will not be affected even if it is idle for a long time.
