There are dozens of servers in the node list, which one should I use? Just looking at the name is useless, you have to take a test. v2rayN has two built-in speed tests. If you understand their differences, you will be able to steadily select fast and stable nodes instead of randomly testing them based on your feelings.
1Two speed tests: ping latency vs true connection latency
You can see two test items when you right-click on the v2rayN node or in the menu "Server", with completely different meanings:
- Test server latency (ping): Use TCP ping to measure the network round-trip time of the server. It is fast and can be tested in batches, but it only reflects "whether the line is open or not, and whether it can be bypassed."It does not mean whether you can actually access the Internet through a normal proxy..
- Test server real connection delay: It really takes time to access an external network test address through this node and test the entire link. This number truly corresponds to your experience of browsing web pages and watching videos. Select nodes based on it.
Remember a shortcut key: For selecting all nodes Ctrl+A, used to test true connection delays in batches Ctrl+R. After taking the test, click on the header of the "Test Results" column to sort by delay, with the fastest ones at the top.
2How to read speed test results
The true connection delay can be roughly judged as follows:
- 30–80 ms: Excellent, easy to browse web pages, hold meetings, and watch high-definition videos.
- 80–150 ms: Good, enough for daily use.
- 150–300 ms: On the high side, web pages can be opened but there is a slight delay, which can be felt in games and real-time calls.
- Timeout/Red: This node is currently unavailable. It may be under maintenance or offline. Skip it first.
3Practical ideas for selecting nodes
- Proximity principle: Nodes that are close together, such as Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore, naturally have lower latency and are generally used first.
- Depends on the usage scenario: To watch 4K and hold meetings, the latency should be low and stable, so choose a dedicated line/IEPL marked one; just to check the information, ordinary nodes are enough.
- Test several times: The speed test is a snapshot of a certain moment. There is a big difference between the peak period (8-11 p.m.) and the day. A test at a critical moment will be more accurate.
4What to do if the speed test result is abnormal
if All nodes time out, the problem is probably not with the node itself, but with v2rayN not working properly: the kernel is not started, the subscription has expired, or the local port is occupied. Look first Unable to access the Internet to troubleshoot and Port conflict resolution. If only individual nodes are timing out, then it is a problem with these lines and just change one.
